Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of year for a safari in Tanzania?

Tanzania offers exceptional safari experiences year-round. The dry season (June–October) provides the best general game viewing as animals gather around water sources. The Great Migration river crossings happen July–September. The green season (November–May) offers lush landscapes, excellent birding, fewer crowds, and lower rates. Calving season in the southern Serengeti (January–March) is particularly spectacular.

Are the experiences suitable for children?

Many of our experiences are family-friendly, including game drives, bonfire evenings, pool relaxation, and cultural visits. Walking safaris and night game drives typically require a minimum age of 10–12 years. Hot air balloon safaris require children to be at least 7 years old. We recommend our Family Safari Adventure offer for the best family-oriented itinerary.

What should I wear on safari?

We recommend neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige) in lightweight, breathable fabrics. Avoid bright colours and white, which can startle wildlife. Layers are essential as mornings and evenings can be cool. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required for walking safaris. A warm fleece or jacket is recommended for early morning game drives and evenings.

Can experiences be customised or combined?

Absolutely. Every Acacia Collections itinerary is bespoke. Our safari consultants can combine experiences across multiple properties — for example, a Ngorongoro Crater tour from Naserian followed by walking safaris at Olkarien in the Serengeti. Use our Itinerary Builder or contact us directly to design your perfect journey.

Do you offer wedding and honeymoon experiences?

Yes. We offer a traditional Maasai Wedding Blessing ceremony at Naserian Safari Camp, complete with elder blessings, warrior dances, and beadwork exchange. Our honeymoon packages combine romantic camps across the Serengeti and Ngorongoro — including private boma dinners, walking safaris, spa treatments, and night game drives. See our Special Offers for curated wedding and honeymoon packages.

What is included in the experience pricing?

Each experience page details specific inclusions and exclusions. Generally, guided activities include your expert guide, vehicle or equipment, and refreshments. Park entrance fees, conservation fees, and gratuities are typically excluded. Full-board accommodation packages at our camps include most on-property experiences such as game drives, sundowners, and bonfire evenings.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 30 days in advance for most experiences, and 90+ days for peak season (July–October). Hot air balloon safaris and Maasai Wedding Blessing ceremonies require a minimum of 7–14 days advance notice. Last-minute availability is sometimes possible during the green season.

What level of fitness is required?

Most safari experiences require no special fitness — game drives, cultural visits, and dining experiences are accessible to all. Walking safaris are rated “Moderate” and require 2–3 hours of steady walking on uneven terrain. The Mount Meru day hike is rated “Challenging” and requires good fitness. We’ll help match experiences to your comfort level.
